Everything made is taken home. There is no Launch, so no rocket building. We will do that in the Spring. This program is all science and hands on activities. Running outside for maybe 15 minutes here and there. Sessions may be done on different days; interchangeable, depending on the weather (need sun for solar experiments, etc.) Session #1: Learn about the history of rockets, check student’s knowledge of space, rocketry etc. We will construct a foam rocket and determine distances, force, demonstrate Newton’s 3rd law by launching and tracking these rockets. Session #2: Construct and Race, Rocket Race Cars to demonstrate Newton’s 3rd Law. Work on our Medieval Castles for Session #3. Some history added here – we’ll learn little about Medieval times, wars, and the weapons they used. Session #3: “Weather on Planets and on Earth” study, making a tornado in a bottle. Solar experiment (if sun is out) (Learn about electromagnetic field, focusing on sun and uv rays; making solar bracelets that change color when exposed to UV rays) Seeing the sun through solar sunglasses. Session #4: Polymer experiments, learning about Polymers in space and our daily life. Balloon experiments, making slime, and more… Session #5: Storm the Castle. Each student will construct a catapult to storm our Castles. We will learn about distance and force (velocity) In all classes we do science/space trivia and give away “little prizes for the right answers”.
